About Sheriff Gary Boggess
Sheriff Gary Boggess was born in McAlester, Oklahoma in 1966. He attended Indianola Public Schools from kindergarten through 12th grade. After graduating from Indianola High School in 1984, he attended OSU/OKC.
Sheriff Boggess joined the United States Army in 1986 and served on active duty until 1991. He was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division and served in Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm. After returning from Operation Desert Storm, he left active duty, joined the Oklahoma National Guard, and served from 1991 to 1999. He received several awards and commendations while on active duty and in the Oklahoma National Guard.
Sheriff Boggess entered his law enforcement career in 1991 when he joined the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office, where he worked until 1995. In 1995, he joined the Oklahoma Capitol Patrol, a division of the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety. He was assigned to the Governor’s Executive Security Detail. He also worked in the patrol division.
In 1999, he left the Oklahoma Capitol Patrol and went to work for the Newcastle Police Department. While with the Newcastle Police Department, he worked his way through the ranks. He held the positions of K-9 Officer, Corporal, Sergeant, and Lieutenant before being promoted to Assistant Chief of Police in 2008. He held that position until his retirement on May 25, 2021.
Sheriff Boggess holds the Advanced Law Enforcement Certification, the highest in the state. He has over 2,000 continuing education hours through CLEET. He is also a graduate of the Chief and Command Staff Academy.
In April 2021, Boggess was approached by Grady County Sheriff Jim Weir, asking if he was interested in the Undersheriff position. Honored by the opportunity to serve under Sheriff Weir, Boggess accepted and became the Grady County Undersheriff. He attended the Oklahoma Sheriff’s Academy in 2022.
On February 1, 2023, Undersheriff Boggess was appointed Sheriff of Grady County by the Board of County Commissioners when Sheriff Jim Weir retired.
Sheriff Boggess moved to Grady County 18 years ago. He is married to the love of his life, Carrie, who has lived in the county most of her life. Carrie has been a Reserve Deputy for the Grady County Sheriff’s Office for approximately 22 years. Gary and Carrie are the proud parents of three wonderful children: Whitney, Kenna, and Keaton.
Sheriff Boggess is grateful for the opportunity to protect and serve the citizens of Grady County. He looks forward to seeing God’s plan for his life continue to unfold.
Gary Boggess is running for Sheriff this year. He is a Republican candidate on the ballot in the June 18 primary election.
